Chapter 9: A Structured Analysis of Sustainability in Arctic Transport Studies

With climate change and the opportunity to exploit oil and gas reserves, the Arctic has been the subject of numerous analyses in former years. At the same time, International Maritime Organization (IMO) and Arctic coastal states are creating a more constrained framework to protect the environment, to limit the impact of human activities upon the flora and fauna, and to better integrate local communities. From an analysis of 239 articles, we assessed how sustainability has been considered within the literature over the past 30 years. Our result highlighted that, if there are numerous sustainable approaches depending on the country, the subject is still under-represented.

Chapter 7: Four Personal Stories about True Storytelling and the work of DEI

This chapter presents personal narrative accounts of lived experiences from African American diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) practitioners and guides. These narrative accounts are an individual and collective reflection of life events, artifacts revealed during training events toward the achievement of True Storytelling institute (TSI) Train the Trainer certification and completion of Organizational Development modules. The Seven Principles of True Storytelling were the frame-work and methodology used to reveal parallel fractals and artifacts among the participants represented in the chapter. The account of events leading up to and including the training path toward guide certification presented an in-depth and absorptive milieu toward the objective of deconstruction and reconstruction driven by antenarrative interplay as a change process over the grand narrative in the DEI space. The seamless change process evolved through the seven principles and organizational development processes stimulated by David Boje’s 7 B’s and four hearts. The narrative life stories in the context of the seven principles of True Storytelling embody authentic voices of personal experiences integrating natural ways of thinking about aspects of DEI, rehistorizing from the past to the present.

Dynamics of Molecular Processes and the Sustainable Development of Humanity

Yuan Tseh Lee was instrumental in the development and construction of an apparatus that utilized crossed molecular beams, presenting a breakthrough technique that allowed for the understanding of the dynamics of elementary chemical reactions. This was done by following the trajectories of reactants and reaction products in single collision events, allowing the visualization of the dynamics of how chemical reactions take place. This article also highlights Prof. Lee’s belief in the severity of the consequences of global warming and his concerns relating to the need to substantially reduce carbon emissions.

CHAPTER 8: TRANSBOUNDARY WATER MANAGEMENT ALONG THE TAGUS RIVER BASIN IN THE IBERIAN PENINSULA: SUSTAINABLE WATER ALLOCATION OF THE AQUEDUCT TAGUS-SEGURA

Spain and Portugal have established cooperation mechanisms to manage their shared water resources in order to avoid any potential conflict. Cooperation is clearly reflected in the 1998 Albufeira Convention, which provides a legal framework to regulate all transboundary basins between both countries to protect surface water and groundwater, as well as the aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems that depend on them for the sustainable use of water resources. The 1998 Albufeira Convention establishes as one of the uses of the Tagus Basin Gthe transfer of water interbasin such as the Aqueduct Tagus-Segura (ATS). According to this Convention, the management of water uses and the right to use water shall be addressed to guarantee the sustainable use of water that is already established. The ATS is a use guaranteed and protected under international water law. The analysis of the ATS in the context of the international legislation to mitigate water scarcity, and droughts provides the strategies to promote resilience to climate change and the impacts of drought conditions in the society in a sustainable manner while ensuring the fundamental rights.

EXPLORATION ON ECOLOGICAL ADAPTABILITY OF THE CONSTRUCTION OF RURAL LANDSCAPE TOURISM — A GRADUATION THESIS ON TOURISM PLANNING

Rural landscape is the resource base to develop rural tourism. Under the background of tourism development, the “rurality” of rural landscape is threatened by the reverse change of rural landscape patterns, which goes against the sustainable development of rural tourism. From the perspective of landscape ecology, the paper makes a deep analysis of negative influence of the development of rural tourism nowadays on rural landscape ecology and explores how to actively and effectively protect rural landscape so as to promote the sustainable and healthy development of rural landscape tourism. Moreover, methods and measures aiming to facilitate the rational development of rural landscape are put forward.

Applications of wind energy in concept car styling design

The paper studies automobile styling mode and designing way by the character of new energy-wind energy and solves the problems on how to grasp the characters of newenergy automobile styling and the application of new energy. It analyzes the relationship between wind energy conversion and styling in the automobile styling design through combining air flow principle and practical cases, realizes the practical application of the regenerating wind energy character in automobile headstock and body styling design of the new-energy automobile effectively, and advances the balance between aesthetics and aeromechanics in the automobile styling and its corresponding solutions.
