Special Issue on Metaverse and the Future of Finance

The International Journal of Financial Engineering invites submissions for a special issue on the topic of "Metaverse and the Future of Finance." This special issue aims to explore the intersection of emerging technologies, virtual environments, and the evolving landscape of financial systems. We welcome high-quality research papers, case studies, and reviews that delve into the multifaceted aspects of the Metaverse and its implications for the future of finance.

Background and Scope

The concept of the Metaverse has gained significant attention as an immersive virtual reality space that allows users to interact with one another and digital content in a shared, three-dimensional environment. As this technological landscape expands, it presents novel opportunities and challenges for the financial industry. This special issue seeks to examine the potential impact of the Metaverse on various domains within finance, including but not limited to:

  • Virtual currencies and decentralized finance (DeFi) in the Metaverse.
  • Blockchain technology and smart contracts for financial transactions in virtual environments.
  • Augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) applications for financial education and training.
  • Digital assets, non-fungible tokens (NFTs), and their role in the Metaverse economy.
  • Governance, regulation, and legal considerations in the virtual financial ecosystem.
  • Social, economic, and behavioral aspects of financial interactions in the Metaverse.
  • Impact of the Metaverse on financial inclusion, access to capital, and wealth distribution.
  • Cybersecurity and privacy challenges in Metaverse-based financial systems.
Contributions exploring other related topics are also welcome. We encourage interdisciplinary approaches and research that bridges the gap between technology, finance, and social sciences.

Submission Guidelines

Papers submitted to this special issue should follow the journal’s guidelines for authors, available on the journal's website. Submissions can be in the form of full research papers, case studies, or systematic literature reviews. All submissions will undergo a rigorous peer-review process to ensure the highest quality and relevance to the topic.

Manuscripts should be submitted electronically through the journal's online submission system, indicating that they are intended for the special issue on "Metaverse and the Future of Finance."

Notification of Acceptance: January 10, 2024
