Aims & Scope

The Journal of Interconnection Networks (JOIN) is an international scientific journal dedicated to advancing the state-of-the-art of interconnection networks. The journal addresses all aspects of interconnection networks which include structure, function, application and management in a variety of pervasive systems at the biological, cyber, physical and social level. Original research articles, both theoretical and applied, are solicited. Expository papers, which survey a matured or an emerging field, are also welcome. The topics covered by this journal include (but are not limited to) the following:

System Structure and Management:

  • Structures and Topologies: Multistage interconnection networks; various network properties including connectivity, diameter, wide diameter, reliability, reconfigurability, and fault-tolerance.
  • Network Management: Routing, scheduling and load balancing; routing protocols; network design and traffic management; frequency equipment; network management policy and security.
  • Domain Applications: Application of interconnection networks in parallel and distributed computing, reconfigurable network architecture, integrated circuits (VLSI layout design), multiprocessors and multi-core computers, and communication networks as diverse as telephone systems, cable network systems, computer networks, software defined networks, mobile communication networks, sensor networks, wireless networks, visualized networks, data center systems, clouds and satellite network systems
  • Complex Network: Study of large networks defined with complex, typically probabilistic, structures; mathematical models; efficient algorithms; evolution of dynamic complex networks; big data implications of representing, managing, and analyzing large networks.
Social Networks and Interaction:
  • Semantic Network: Attention, consciousness, perception, knowledge presentation and association and proposition.
  • Community Structure: Algorithms for finding communities, testing methods of finding community, graph properties including distance, closeness, betweenness, and power-law distribution; inferring social networks from physical interactions.
Cyber Infrastructure and Information Marketplace:
  • Critical Infrastructure and Internet of Things: Smart objects; wearable computing and body area networks; graphical model for NoSQL data bases and big data analytics; network infrastructure for big data; critical infrastructures such as the power grid and transportation systems.
  • Information Marketplace: Graphical model for marketing informatics; marketing intelligence; propagation of information through network, market segmentation; e-commence and e-business.
  • Cyber Security: Global network interconnection and communication, security in cloud computing, modeling of network traffic, bandwidth allocation; web system and network security; international cooperation, legal and policy issues.
