The international business environment remains in a state of constant change that requires firms to adjust and respond strategically to stay competitive. Increased automation, artificial intelligence and the 4th industrial revolution (Industry 4.0) are challenging the way international firms conduct their business. Also, the aging population in many countries, environmental issues such as climate change, increased bilateral and multilateral trade agreements, growing income disparity, and increasing anti-globalization sentiments present both opportunities and challenges for businesses.

Developed economy MNEs are expected to respond rapidly to these challenges and opportunities by applying innovative strategies. However, the rise of emerging market multinational enterprises (EMMNEs) through the application of their unique management style and strategies, and rapid learning through mergers and acquisitions is challenging the traditional approach to competition in the global marketplace.

This book series aims to address these emerging issues by contributing to the knowledge in these areas and influencing future research in the field.
