The field of bioengineering and biotechnology has gone through rapid developments over the past two decades owing to increased emphasis being placed on life sciences to improve the quality of life. These developments has eventually led to a better understanding of the mechanisms of failure of biomedical materials, drug delivery, interactions of materials with the human tissue in the physiological environment to engineering aids to understanding complex nature of DNA / RNA mapping in genomics. The present series covers the developments in the materials/ composites for bioengineering applications, interactions of these materials with human tissue and their possible effects, developments in instrumental techniques and optics for biology and medicine. In general, the volumes will focus on application and the latest developments in engineering principles in life sciences to provide readers with the developments in various fields of bioengineering usually not covered in conventional texts.
