Systems Research Series highlights significant research in the form of dissertations, monographs, and textbooks with thinking, systems engineering, and enterprise systems. The intent is to support the development of a body of knowledge in this “practice-oriented field” via current and on-going research. This is particularly important today given the nature of the many significant problems facing society — water, energy, climate change, cyber security, national security and the threat of terrorism. While each of these problems requires a technology-based response, such a response without a systems context is likely to be sub-optimal and ineffective. Researchers, practitioners, and decision makers need a systems response to each of these societal challenges.
