A technology evaluation model based on the negotiation between a licensor and a licensee is proposed. This model also considered information asymmetry which decreases the probability of technology transfer between the licensor and the licensee. Factors which affect this decrease and sectors which are more exposed to this decrease using the technology evaluation model are explored using the pooled technology transferred cases of NTB (National Technology Bank), Korea. The only explanatory factor which covers all sectors is the "technology regime-based innovation pattern," and the factor named "patent authorization stage" is the most influencing variable within a specific sector. In three sectors of the four "technology regime-based innovation patterns," namely, scale intensive, specialized supplier, and science based, the variation of licensing probability is likely to increase when the "patent authorization stage" increases. Using SOFM and ANOVA, the negotiated result and the value of technology evaluated are likely to increase.

Leading biopharmaceutical firms need to dynamically optimize pipeline portfolios of internally and externally generated product candidates to ensure sustainable growth. This paper provides an empirical analysis of leading global biotechnology firms with respect to technology agglomeration patterns, proximity to alliance partners, and firm performance for the period 1996–2006. Findings suggest that the absolute number of technology and product alliances were approximately twice as important as proximity to partners in terms of firm performance. These results indicate that a strategy of relentless pipeline building, without regard to geographic proximity of alliance partners, may enhance relative and absolute performance of biopharmaceutical industry leaders.

This paper examines the logistical and operational issues relating to technology transfer. It documents the specific problems encountered as well as the solution designed to overcome these problems. The paper presents a model for technology transfer that incorporates a sequence of stages or steps that should be considered when planning, scheduling and executing a transfer from one location to another. The model ensures that roles are clarified, appropriate training is undertaken, validation processes are considered, supply to the market is maintained and all relevant information and equipment is transferred in a controlled, timely and cost effective manner.

With the basis that research is one of the most important internal sources for innovation, a new approach to create competence-cell-based production networks focused on research activities is presented. Thus, a research process, specific for competence-cell-based networks, is also described. In this process, which is subdivided in different phases, the competence-cells, as the smallest performance units, are temporarily linked in a production network. They cooperate to carry out industry-oriented applied research to generate new ideas or technologies to be used in innovative products. For this process, an approach for the non-hierarchical selection of the necessary competence cells is also introduced. This selection is accomplished by means of the innovation potential, which is based on parameters that evaluate nearly objectively the innovative capabilities of the competence cells.

Since the first commercial launch of cellular telecoms by NET in Tokyo Japan in 1979 and the launch of the NMT system in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden in 1981, the mobile phone has undergone continual incremental innovation for changing market needs. This study investigates the factors affecting the attitudes towards the social acceptance of mobile phones in public places and how this attitude affects its usage. Theories on innovation and technology acceptance were reviewed, and studies relating demographic factors to technology acceptance were examined. A model was proposed relating the usage frequency and attitudes towards acceptance of mobile phone in public places to demographic factors, such as country, age, education, gender, and work status. A survey was conducted among mobile phone users, and the sample consisted of 1079 respondents in the United States, France, Italy, Turkey, and Finland. A structural equation model was developed to analyze the survey data. Results of the analysis indicate that the attitudes about mobile phone use in public places depend on country, and age factors. This attitude in turn significantly affects the usage frequency of mobile phones. In addition, usage frequency also is affected by gender and work status. Implications of the findings for both academicians and practitioners are discussed.
