As the transmission of public opinion on the Internet in the “We the Media” era tends to be supraterritorial, concealed and complex, the traditional “point-to-surface” transmission of information has been transformed into “point-to-point” reciprocal transmission. A foundation for studies of the evolution of public opinion and its transmission on the Internet in the “We the Media” era can be laid by converting the massive amounts of fragmented information on public opinion that exists on “We the Media” platforms into structurally complex networks of information. This paper describes studies of structurally complex network-based modeling of public opinion on the Internet in the “We the Media” era from the perspective of the development and evolution of complex networks. The progress that has been made in research projects relevant to the structural modeling of public opinion on the Internet is comprehensively summarized. The review considers aspects such as regular grid-based modeling of the rules that describe the propagation of public opinion on the Internet in the “We the Media” era, social network modeling, dynamic network modeling, and supernetwork modeling. Moreover, an outlook for future studies that address complex network-based modeling of public opinion on the Internet is put forward as a summary from the perspective of modeling conducted using the techniques mentioned above.

In the present study, we have studied theoretically the influences of donor impurity position on the binding energy of a GaAs cubic quantum box structure. The binding energy is calculated as functions of the position of impurity, electric field, temperature and hydrostatic pressure. The variational method is employed to obtain the energy eigenvalues of the structure in the framework of the effective mass approximation. It has been found that the impurity positions with electric field, pressure and temperature have an important effect on the binding energy of structure considered. The results can be used to manufacture semiconductor device application by manipulating the binding energy with the impurity positions, electric field, pressure and temperature.

In order to alleviate traffic congestion on multilayer networks, designing an efficient routing strategy is one of the most important ways. In this paper, a novel routing strategy is proposed to reduce traffic congestion on two-layer networks. In the proposed strategy, the optimal paths in the physical layer are chosen by comprehensively considering the roles of nodes’ degrees of the two layers. Both numerical and analytical results indicate that our routing strategy can reasonably redistribute the traffic load of the physical layer, and thus the traffic capacity of two-layer complex networks are significantly enhanced compared with the shortest path routing (SPR) and the global awareness routing (GAR) strategies. This study may shed some light on the optimization of networked traffic dynamics.

The remanent state of elliptical permalloy nanodisks depends on the orientation of the applied magnetic field with respect to the major and minor axes of the nanodisks [A. C. Mishra, Int. J. Mod. Phys. B 30, 1650192 (2016)]. The remanent state is usually an onion state if the external magnetic field is along the major axis, and is a vortex state if the external magnetic field is along the minor axis. In this work, we have analyzed the magnetization reversal of a crossed elliptic disk of permalloy using micromagnetic simulation. This is a new shape where two identical elliptic disks with semi-major axis of length a and semi-minor axis of length b intersect such that they are perpendicular to each other. If the value of b is very close to that of a, then the remanent state is a near saturation state. As the ratio a/b goes down, new complex remanent states are observed. The hysteresis loss is found to be decreased gradually with the increment of b for a given value of b.

A lattice Boltzmann model on Hermite basis for compressible viscous flows is presented in this paper. The model is developed in the framework of double-distribution-function approach, which has adjustable specific-heat ratio and Prandtl number. It contains a density distribution function for the flow field and a total energy distribution function for the temperature field. The equilibrium distribution function is determined by Hermite expansion, and the D3Q27 and D3Q39 three-dimensional (3D) discrete velocity models are used, in which the discrete velocity model can be replaced easily. Moreover, an artificial viscosity is introduced to enhance the model for capturing shock waves. The model is tested through several cases of compressible flows, including 3D supersonic viscous flows with boundary layer. The effect of artificial viscosity is estimated. Besides, D3Q27 and D3Q39 models are further compared in the present platform.

Since the discovery of the Meissner effect, the superconductor to normal (S–N) phase transition in the presence of a magnetic field is understood to be a first-order phase transformation that is reversible under ideal conditions and obeys the laws of thermodynamics. The reverse (N–S) transition is the Meissner effect. This implies in particular that the kinetic energy of the supercurrent is not dissipated as Joule heat in the process where the superconductor becomes normal and the supercurrent stops. In this paper, we analyze the entropy generation and the momentum transfer between the supercurrent and the body in the S–N transition and the N–S transition as described by the conventional theory of superconductivity. We find that it is not possible to explain the transition in a way that is consistent with the laws of thermodynamics unless the momentum transfer between the supercurrent and the body occurs with zero entropy generation, for which the conventional theory of superconductivity provides no mechanism. Instead, we point out that the alternative theory of hole superconductivity does not encounter such difficulties.

In the present work, the optical properties of GaAs/AlGaAs semiparabolic quantum wells (QWs) are studied under the effect of applied electric field and magnetic field by using the compact-density-matrix method. The energy eigenvalues and their corresponding eigenfunctions of the system are calculated by using the differential method. Simultaneously, the nonlinear optical rectification (OR) and optical absorption coefficients (OACs) are investigated, which are modulated by the applied electric field and magnetic field. It is found that the position and the magnitude of the resonant peaks of the nonlinear OR and OACs can depend strongly on the applied electric field, magnetic field and confined potential frequencies. This gives a new way to control the device applications based on the intersubband transitions of electrons in this system.

In order to improve the efficiency of traffic control system in the era of big data, a new variable cycle control model based on multi-source information is presented for intersection in this paper. Firstly, with consideration of multi-source information, a unified framework based on cyber-physical system is proposed. Secondly, taking into account the variable length of cell, hysteresis phenomenon of traffic flow and the characteristics of lane group, a Lane group-based Cell Transmission Model is established to describe the physical properties of traffic flow under different traffic signal control schemes. Thirdly, the variable cycle control problem is abstracted into a bi-level programming model. The upper level model is put forward for cycle length optimization considering traffic capacity and delay. The lower level model is a dynamic signal control decision model based on fairness analysis. Then, a Hybrid Intelligent Optimization Algorithm is raised to solve the proposed model. Finally, a case study shows the efficiency and applicability of the proposed model and algorithm.

An effective method to obtain the single attosecond pulses (SAPs) by using the multi-cycle plasmon-driven double optical gating (DOG) technology in the specifically designed metal nanostructures has been proposed and investigated. It is found that with the introduction of the crossed metal nanostructures along the driven and the gating polarization directions, not only the harmonic cutoff can be extended, but also the efficient high-order harmonic generation (HHG) at the very highest orders occurs only at one side of the region inside the nanostructure. As a result, a 93 eV supercontinuum with the near stable phase can be found. Further, by properly introducing an ultraviolet (UV) pulse into the driven laser polarization direction (which is defined as the DOG), the harmonic yield can be enhanced by two orders of magnitude in comparison with the singe polarization gating (PG) technology. However, as the polarized angle or the ellipticity of the UV pulse increase, the enhancement of the harmonic yield is slightly reduced. Finally, by superposing the selected harmonics from the DOG scheme, a 30 as SAP with intensity enhancement of two orders of magnitude can be obtained.

In this work, we study the linear and nonlinear magneto-optical absorption spectrum in a triangular quantum well (TrQW) created by the applied electric field via investigating the phonon-assisted cyclotron resonance (PACR) effect. The results are calculated for a specific Ga${}_{0.7}$Al${}_{0.3}$As/GaAs quantum well. The magneto-optical absorption coefficient (MOAC) and the full width at half maximum (FWHM) are found to be significantly dependent on the magnetic field, the electric field and the temperature. Our results showed that the MOAC and FWHM increase with the magnetic, electric fields and temperature. The obtained results also suggest a useful way to control the magneto-optical properties of TrQW by changing these parameters.

Grating-based X-ray phase contrast imaging is promising especially in the medical area. Two or three gratings are involved in grating-based X-ray phase contrast imaging in which the absorption grating of high-aspect-ratio is the most important device and the fabrication process is a great challenge. The material with large atomic number Z is used to fabricate the absorption grating for excellent absorption of X-ray, and Au is usually used. The fabrication process, which involves X-ray lithography, development and gold electroplating, is described in this paper. The absorption gratings with 4 $\mu$m period and about 100 $\mu$m height are fabricated and the high-aspect-ratio is 50.

The uniaxially strained graphene monolayer on transition metal dichalcogenide (GrTMD) substrate, constituting a van der Waals heterostructure (vdWH), is found to possess unusual intra-band plasmon dispersion ($\omega \sim q^{2/3}$) with stronger incarceration compared to that of a standalone, doped graphene for finite doping in the long wavelength limit. The intra-band absorbance of GrTMD is found to be an increasing (decreasing) function of the strain field (frequency) at a given frequency (strain field). It is also observed that whereas the strain field is responsible for the valley polarization, a Rashba coupling-dependent pseudo Zeeman term arising due to the interplay of substrate-induced interactions is found to bring about the spin degeneracy lifting and the gate voltage tunable spin polarization. The latter turns out to be inversely proportional to the square root of the carrier concentration.
