We investigate spin squeezing dynamics in a two-component Bose–Einstein condensate (BEC) in the presence of the nonlinear interatomic interaction, interspecies interaction and Josephson-like tunneling interaction. In particular, we are interesting in the dependence of spin squeezing parameter on the interspecies interaction and the numbers of atom. By adopting the two-mode approximation and the rotating wave approximation, we succeed in obtaining analytical solutions for the optimally squeezed angle and spin squeezing parameter. It is shown that the stronger interspecies interaction induces faster spin squeezing and the more atoms or the larger population imbalance induces stronger squeezing; while the Josephson-like tunneling gives vanishing contribution to spin squeezing.

Cavity Optomechanical system is speedily approaching the regime where the radiation pressure of a single photon displaces the moving mirror. In this paper, we consider a cavity optomechanical system where the cavity field is driven by an external field. In the limit of weak mirror-cavity couplings, we calculate analytically the reflection and transmission rates for cavity field and discuss the effects of mirror-cavity coupling on reflection and transmission.

We investigate quantum discord of the "q-deformed" Werner state via Yang–Baxterization approach. There are two parameters q and u in this "q-deformed" Werner state. The parameter u, which plays an important role in some typical models, is related to the probability of the "q-deformed" two-qubit spin singlet state in this study. The "q-deformed" parameter q is related to the single loop through d = q + q^-1. When topological parameter d approaches 2 (i.e. q → 1), the "q-deformed" Werner state degenerates into the well-known Werner state. The results show that topological parameter d has great influence on quantum correlations of the "q-deformed" Werner state. When we fix the parameter u, the quantum correlations decrease with increasing the single loop d. When d approaches +∞ (i.e. q → 0⁺ or +∞), quantum discord, geometric measure of quantum discord and entanglement all tend to 0. While d approaches 2 (i.e. q → 1), all of them just have the same results with the Werner state.

By use of Reid's criterion and the entropic criterion, we investigate the Einstein–Podolsky–Rosen (EPR) steering for some entangled continuous variable wavefunctions. We find that some entangled states that violate Bell's inequality will not violate Reid's EPR inequality nor the entropic inequality. This implies that neither criterion gives a necessary and sufficient condition to detect the EPR steering.

A scheme for deterministic secure direct communication based on ping-pong protocol without restricting the security control only to a distinct control mode and debate via classical channel is proposed. It utilizes an entangled pair of qubits and presents a higher bit-rate transfer of information together with a higher security than ping-pong protocol. The security of protocol is enhanced by introducing a control factor for each message mode. It is explicitly showed that the protocol has a high degree of security against a class of individual attacks, and successfully resolves the famous Wojcik attack.

The four-level entangled quantum heat engine (QHE) is analyzed in the various Heisenberg models for a two-qubit. The QHE is examined for the XX, XXX and XXZ Heisenberg models by introducing a parameter x which controls the strength of the exchange parameter J_z = xJ along the z-axis with respect to the ones along the x- and y-axes, i.e. J_x = J_y = J, respectively. It is assumed that the two-qubit is entangled and in contact with two heat reservoirs at different temperatures and under the effect of a constant magnetic field. The concurrences (C) are used as a measure of entanglement and then the expressions for the amount of heat transferred, the work performed and the efficiency of the QHE are derived. The contour, i.e. the isoline maps, and some two-dimensional plots of the above mentioned thermodynamic quantities are calculated and some interesting features are found.

Decoherence is one of the main obstacles in quantum information processing. In cryptographic scenarios, in particular, decoherence is not only responsible for the loss of the quantum properties but also for information leakage out to a wiretapper. Given that decoherence must be fought in real-world quantum communication systems, we present a scheme, using decoherence-free subspaces and subsystems, to perform secure classical communications through noisy quantum channels. Using quantum information and wiretap theories, we establish a proof of unconditional security of our scheme. We illustrate our proposal with a non-trivial example and discuss some of its impacts on already existing quantum secure message exchange protocols. Furthermore, we present some up-to-date technologies that can be used for practical implementation of the scheme proposed.

We consider an extension of discrete time Markov chain queueing model to the quantum domain by use of discrete time quantum Markov chain. We introduce methods for numerical analysis of such models. Using these tools we show that quantum model behaves fundamentally different from the classical one.

We propose a quantum state transfer from an atomic qubit to a cat-like qubit by means of one degenerate Raman interaction and one Hadamard gate operation for coherent states. We show that the coefficients of the atomic qubit can be mapped onto coherent state qubit, with an effective qubit state transfer.

Recently there were many quantum protocols devoted to solve the millionaire problem and private comparison problem by adding a semi-honest third party. They all require complicated quantum methods, while still leak a non-trivial amount of information to at least one of the parties. But it will be shown here that once the third party is introduced, there can be protocols which is very simple in the sense that they require quantum key distribution as the only quantum resource. Meanwhile, the amount of information leaked can be made arbitrarily small. Furthermore, in most previous protocols the third party can spoil the protocols without being detected. In our protocol such cheating can also be avoided, so that the only constraint left is that the third party should not conspire with another participant. Thus our solutions surpass all existing protocols on both feasibility and security.
