In this paper, we study three-dimensional (3D) reduced Birman–Murakami–Wenzl (BMW) algebra based on topological basis theory. Several examples of BMW algebra representations are reviewed. We also discuss a special solution of BMW algebra, which can be used to construct Heisenberg XXZ model. The theory of topological basis provides a useful method to solve quantum spin chain models. It is also shown that the ground state of XXZ spin chain is superposition state of topological basis.

We propose a new scheme to generate multi-photon entanglement in two steps. First, we utilize a superconductor to create multi-quantum-dot entanglement; secondly, we use the input photon to transfer it into multi-photon entanglement. Moreover, the maximum probability for the swap of photon and quantum-dot qubits is close to unity for a single input Gaussian photon. More importantly, by mapping the multi-quantum-dot state into coherent states of oscillators, such as cavity modes, the multi-quantum-dot entanglement in our scheme can be protected from the decoherence induced by the noise. Thus, it is possible to generate more than eight spatially separated entangled photons in the realistic experimental conditions.

One of the most challenges to prove the feasibility of quantum computers is to protect the quantum nature of information. Quantum convolutional codes are aimed at protecting a stream of quantum information in a long distance communication, which are the correct generalization to the quantum domain of their classical analogs. In this paper, we construct some classes of quantum convolutional codes by employing classical constacyclic codes. These codes are optimal in the sense that they attain the Singleton bound for pure convolutional stabilizer codes.

A new method for the construction of the binary quantum stabilizer codes is provided, where the construction is based on Abelian and non-Abelian groups association schemes. The association schemes based on non-Abelian groups are constructed by bases for the regular representation from U_6n, T_4n, V_8n and dihedral D_2n groups. By using Abelian group association schemes followed by cyclic groups and non-Abelian group association schemes a list of binary stabilizer codes up to 40 qubits is given in tables 4, 5 and 10. Moreover, several binary stabilizer codes of minimum distances 5, 7 and 8 with good quantum parameters is presented. The preference of this method specially for Abelian group association schemes is that one can construct any binary quantum stabilizer code with any distance by using the commutative structure of association schemes.

A three-slit ghost interference experiment with entangled photons is theoretically analyzed using wave-packet dynamics. A non-local duality relation is derived which connects the path distinguishability of one photon to the interference visibility of the other.

For every N-qubit density matrix written in the computational basis, an associated "X-density matrix" can be obtained by vanishing all entries out of the main- and anti-diagonals. It is very simple to compute the genuine multipartite (GM) concurrence of this associated N-qubit X-state, which, moreover, lower bounds the GM-concurrence of the original (non-X) state. In this paper, we rely on these facts to introduce and benchmark a heuristic for estimating the GM-concurrence of an arbitrary multiqubit mixed state. By explicitly considering two classes of mixed states, we illustrate that our estimates are usually very close to the standard lower bound on the GM-concurrence, being significantly easier to compute. In addition, while evaluating the performance of our proposed heuristic, we provide the first characterization of GM-entanglement in the steady states of the driven Dicke model at zero temperature.

The Schmidt number is of crucial importance in characterizing the bipartite pure states. We explore and propose here a generalization of Schmidt number for states in multipartite systems. It is shown to be entanglement monotonic and valid for both pure and mixed states. In addition, the corresponding generalization of multipartite Schmidt coefficients is introduced. Our approach is applicable for systems with arbitrary number of parties and for arbitrary dimensions.

In the absence of a satisfactory interpretation of quantum theory, physical law lacks physical basis. This paper reviews the orthodox, or Dirac–von Neumann interpretation, and makes explicit that Hilbert space describes propositions about measurement results. Kets are defined as conditional clauses referring to measurements in a formal language. It is seen that these clauses are elements of a Hilbert space, such that addition is logical disjunction, the dual space consists of consequent clauses, and the inner product is a set of statements in the subjunctive mood. The probability interpretation gives truth values for corresponding future tense statements when the initial state is actually prepared and the final state is to be measured. The mathematical structure of quantum mechanics is formulated in terms of discrete measurement results at finite level of accuracy and does not depend on an assumption of a substantive, or background, space–time continuum. A continuum of kets, ∣x〉 for x ∈ ℝ³, is constructed from linear combinations of kets in a finite basis. The inner product can be expressed either as a finite sum or as an integral. Discrete position functions are uniquely embedded into smooth wave functions in such a way that differential operators are defined. It is shown that the choice of basis has no effect on underlying physics (quantum covariance). The Dirac delta has a representation as a smooth function. Operators do not in general have an integral form. The Schrödinger equation is shown from the requirements of the probability interpretation. It is remarked that a formal construction of quantum electrodynamics (qed) avoiding divergence problems has been completed using finite dimensional Hilbert space. I conclude that quantum mechanics makes statements about the world with clear physical meaning, such that space is emergent from particle interactions and has no fundamental role.

Sub- and super-fidelity describe respectively the lower and super bound of fidelity of quantum states. In this paper, we obtain several properties of sub- and super-fidelity for both finite- and infinite-dimensional quantum systems. Furthermore, let H be a separable complex Hilbert space and ϕ : 𝒮(H) → 𝒮(H) a map, where 𝒮(H) denotes the convex set of all states on H. We show that, if dim H < ∞, or, if dim H = ∞ and ϕ is surjective, then the following statements are equivalent: (1) ϕ preserves the super-fidelity; (2) ϕ preserves the fidelity; (3) ϕ preserves the sub-fidelity; (4) there exists a unitary or an anti-unitary operator U on H such that ϕ(ρ) = UρU^† for all ρ ∈ 𝒮(H).

In this paper, quantum codes from cyclic codes over A₂ = F₂ + uF₂ + vF₂ + uvF₂, u² = u, v² = v, uv = vu, for arbitrary length n have been constructed. It is shown that if C is self orthogonal over A₂, then so is Ψ(C), where Ψ is a Gray map. A necessary and sufficient condition for cyclic codes over A₂ that contains its dual has also been given. Finally, the parameters of quantum error correcting codes are obtained from cyclic codes over A₂.
