Pediatric care practitioners are faced with increasing amounts of data that is not matched by an equivalent ability to manage and apply it for improved healthcare. Contributing to this are lack of tools and systems to aid in knowledge management. This paper presents the results of a study on a model that focusses on integrating the Knowledge management processes that contribute to improved pediatric care delivery in the context of Uganda. A field survey was conducted to empirically test the model of knowledge management in Pediatric Healthcare (PHC). The requirements were used to extend existing Knowledge management models in order to describe one suitable for pediatrics knowledge management and practice. The study identified technology, People, Storage and pediatrics knowledge integration as important requirements for successful implementation of Knowledge management in PHC practice. Regression analysis was done to show the relationships in the proposed mode and the results indicate its suitability for knowledge management in pediatric practice.

Information landscape is a critical component of professional and scholarly disciplines. Established disciplines have a managed information foundation covering primary, secondary and tertiary sources, targeted search capabilities, discipline-specific knowledge organisation tools and services, and quality controlled review processes. The information landscapes of emerging disciplines may be more chaotic and unsettled, and present challenges for professionals. This research considers the information landscape of the knowledge management discipline. An open public survey of knowledge professionals provides insights into three factors that affect the landscape including: (1) information awareness; (2) information use and access; and (3) information valuation. Findings highlight key information management challenges, and offer suggestions for solutions.

This paper attempts to examine factors that affect knowledge sharing by individuals in virtual network communities (VNCs) from an organisational context. A research model based on the theory of planned behaviour (TPB) was developed and empirically tested using a web-based survey questionnaire. Antecedent variables are considered as organisational support, organisational culture, subjective norm, web-self-efficacy, attitude towards knowledge sharing, and intention to sharing knowledge. The results showed that attitude towards knowledge sharing, organisational culture, and subjective norm have significant positive effects on knowledge sharing intention which in turns has a significant positive impact on knowledge sharing. Additionally, organisational support indirectly impact intention through attitude. Additionally, the results revealed that web-self-efficacy gender, age, educational level, and firm's age were not significant. Implications for researchers and managers were reported.

The primary aim of this study is to determine critical factors of knowledge management (KM) and to measure their effect on organisational performance. The design of the study is based on a survey composed of questions related to the KM processes. Following refinement and retesting the initial questionnaire development, the final questionnaire was subjected to 83 managers from various ranks based on personal interviews. The variance-based structural equation modelling reveals that there is a strong positive relationship between KM implementation and non-financial performance, while there is no significant influence of KM implementation on financial performance. With only a mediating effect of non-financial performance, the KM implementation has a strong positive impact on financial performance. This study presents uniqueness in that it is the first and foremost one that analyses effects of KM practices on financial performance both directly and indirectly via the mediating effect of non-financial performance factors.

This study proposes a research framework that integrates personal innovativeness, perceived risk, cost and enjoyment with the technology acceptance model (TAM). We used the proposed model to explore the antecedents of consumer behavioural intention (BI) to adopt mobile commerce (m-commerce). Excluding missing answers and invalid questionnaires, 477 valid responses were collected. In addition to confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), we used structural equation modelling (SEM) to examine the relationships among the constructs in the proposed model. Our findings indicated that the younger group (under 30) had lower stickiness to m-commerce. Among the constructs, perceived enjoyment (PE) had the most significant influence on BI, followed by attitude, perceived ease of use (PEOU), perceived usefulness (PU) and perceived risk. Our research results could be used as a guide and reference for m-commerce service providers to improve and operate their services.

Over the past few decades, knowledge management (KM) has become well-established in many fields, particularly in business. Several KM models have been at the forefront of promoting KM in businesses and organisations. However, the applicability of these traditional KM models to the global health field is limited by their focus on KM processes and activities with few linkages to intended outcomes. This paper presents the new Knowledge Management for Global Health (KM4GH) Logic Model, a practical tool that helps global health professionals plan ways in which resources and specific KM activities can work together to achieve desired health program outcomes. We test the validity of this model through three case studies of global and field-level health initiatives: an SMS-based mobile phone network among community health workers (CHWs) and their supervisors in Malawi, a global electronic Toolkits platform that provides health professionals access to health information resources, and a netbook-based eHealth pilot among CHWs and their clients in Bangladesh. The case studies demonstrate the flexibility of the KM4GH Logic Model in designing various KM activities while defining a common set of metrics to measure their outcomes, providing global health organisations with a tool to select the most appropriate KM activities to meet specific knowledge needs of an audience. The three levels of outcomes depicted in the model, which are grounded in behavioural theory, show the progression in the behaviour change process, or in this case, the knowledge use process, from raising awareness of and using the new knowledge to contributing to better health systems and behaviours of the public, and ultimately to improving the health status of communities and individuals. The KM4GH Logic Model makes a unique contribution to the global health field by helping health professionals plan KM activities with the end goal in mind.

Refurbishment can be a complicated process which requires a wide variety of skills from the project team. A knowledgeable project team that is able to understand and interpret client's requirements and rely on their knowledge and experience to meet client's requirements is likely to increase the chance of delivering a project on time and within budget. Very often, a major cause of process delays is the lack of timely, correct information or knowledge, which slows down or halts the work. Until appropriate information or knowledge is acquired for the performance of tasks, there will be a delay and consequent incurrence of costs. This paper illustrates the development of a methodology for the matching of knowledge of the project team with client's project requirements during the refurbishment process. Through the matching process, knowledge gap between the existing knowledge of the project team and the required knowledge is identified and knowledge is captured to fill this gap.

In studying the correlation between structure–strategy and workflow process, empirical research has shown that knowledge flow has an influence on professional team workflow performance. Using multiple sources of case study evidence, we propose a contingent model of a criteria fit in which the effect of structure on strategies is efficiency of Knowledge Applicability (KA) and effectiveness of Knowledge Adaptability (KA). A case study analysis of building permit approval processing by the Town and Country Planning Department (TCPD) and the various planning agencies in Ghana finds strong support for the model explaining that structure is the measurement attribute determining the efficiency and effectiveness of knowledge flow. A framework of four types of KA is outlined. These show that the viability of organisations is contingent on adaptations of efficient structure and applications of effective strategies. With an emphasis on two organisational environmental variables (uncertainty and equivocality) and structural configuration, we demonstrated the impact of formalisation and centralisation on knowledge flow and workflow process using Virtual Design Team Computational Organisational Theory (VDTCOT).
