Modified vitamin B12 derivatives with a peptide backbone for biomimetic studies and medicinal applications
  • Pages:535–541

https://doi.org/10.1142/S108842461830001X

This short review highlights research from the author's group on modified vitamin B12 derivatives with a peptide backbone as (1) inhibitors of B12-dependent enzymes and as (2) models of cofactor B12-protein complexes.

Redox switchable 19π and 18π 5,10,20-triaryl-5,15-diazaporphyrinoid–nickel(II) complexes
  • Pages:542–551

https://doi.org/10.1142/S1088424618500529

This paper reports the first examples of 18π transformed and 19π 5,10,20-triaryl-5,15-diazaporphyrin, which were prepared using metal-templated cyclization and redox reactions of the corresponding nickel(II)–bis(dipyrrin) complexes. The effects of the net charge on the optical and redox properties of the entire diazaporphyrin π-system are discussed on the basis of experimental and theoretical results.

Triphenylphosphonium-substituted phthalocyanine: Design, synthetic strategy, photoproperties and photodynamic activity
  • Pages:552–561

https://doi.org/10.1142/S1088424618500554

A triphenylphosphonium-tetrasubstituted Zn phthalocyanine was designed, taking into account synthetic constraints. Against expectations, mitochondria targeting was weak, but nevertheless this new phthalocyanine proved to be a powerful photosensitizer.

Oxidative ring-openings of octaethyl-2-oxochlorin: Regioisomeric β-oxobiliverdins
  • Pages:562–572

https://doi.org/10.1142/S1088424618500608

The oxidative ring-opening of octaethyl-2-oxochlorin using two different oxidation methods provides a mixture of all possible regioisomeric octaethyltrioxobilins, with three out of the four in quantities sufficient for their spectroscopic and structural characterization.

Use of alkylated, amphiphilic zinc porphyrins to disperse individualized SWCNTs
  • Pages:573–580

https://doi.org/10.1142/S1088424618500621

Two alkylated, amphiphilic zinc porphyrins with different substituents at the beta-position were investigated as to their photophysical properties, aggregation behavior, and ability to individualize and stabilize single wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNT). It was shown that the respective SWCNT/zinc porphyrin hybrids undergo charge separation after excitation with visible light, resulting in reduced SWCNTs and oxidized zinc porphyrins.

Interaction of spermine derivative porphyrin with DNA
  • Pages:581–587

https://doi.org/10.1142/S1088424618500645

The binding modes of spermine derivative porphyrins with three different polynucleotides: ct-DNA and poly(dG-dC)2, in both B- and Z-conformation, are characterized by several spectroscopic techniques, UV-vis, ECD and RLS.

A study of the effect of axial ligand steric hindrance
  • Pages:588–595

https://doi.org/10.1142/S1088424618500700

Structure determination of three imidazole-ligated iron porphyrins provides evidence of the importance of steric effects, either from the axial ligand or the porphyrin ligand, in defining the overall stereochemistry.

Pd-catalyzed Csp 2H phosphonation in the meso position of porphyrins
  • Pages:602–610

https://doi.org/10.1142/S1088424618500852

Pd(II)-catalyzed C-H phosphonation of different mesityl-substituted porphyrins, either free base or Ni(II) and Zn(II) complexes, with diethyl phosphite in the meso positions, were investigated and the conditions worked out for the synthesis of mono- and diphosphonated products.

Preparation and electrochemical properties of cobalt-phthalocyanine-decorated Fe3O4 nanoparticles
  • Pages:611–618

https://doi.org/10.1142/S1088424618500827

We have prepared cobalt-phthalocyanine (CoPc)-decorated iron nanoparticles (Fe3O4 NPs) by anchoring siloxane-terminated CoPc on silica-coated Fe3O4 NPs. The prepared CoPc@Fe3O4 exhibited distinctive electrochemical responses in the presence of picric acid and facile magnetic recovery behavior, demonstrating the potential for applications as electrochemical sensors and biological catalysts.
