The study of classroom and school learning environments and their effects on students' learning has been going on for more than a century. Past efforts in the study of the learning environment and its determinants have indicated that it plays a major role in improving teaching and learning in primary, secondary and higher education.
This book covers various dimensions of the learning environment, its underlying theory, the impact on learning, the curriculum and classroom management. It is organized in such a way as to provide a cross-national and multi-cultural forum for presenting and discussing research findings, as well as development and applications of various techniques and instruments in learning environment research.

“Educators worldwide often pay too much attention to students' achievement and too little attention to learning environments. Having a positive learning environment is valuable in its own right. But, the voluminous research reported in this book demonstrates that positive learning environments also lead to valuable improvements in student achievement and attitudes. This timely book will guide the next generation of research and practical applications related to learning environments.”

“This important book not only traces the remarkable expansion of the field of learning environments internationally, but it also provides a unique focus on the distinctive contributions made by Asian researchers. Not only is the quality of classroom life important, but it also can be assessed and studied. The book demonstrates why the learning environment should not be ignored by those wishing to improve the effectiveness of schools and universities.”
