Narrow Results

Advanced detectors operating at design sensitivity (and beyond) will still produce noise with quasi-periodic and transient components that limit the sensitivity of the instruments and can mimic or overlap gravitational-wave signals. This chapter introduces non-Gaussian noise common to detectors and describes diagnostic methods that integrate gravitational-wave search techniques with instrumentation methods. Together, these techniques increase the rate and fidelity of gravitational-wave observations.
