    Abstract:

    This abbreviated history of Colombia's development as a modern nation highlights the role played by mathematics. From the Botanical Expedition in colonial times, to the present with its flourishing universities contrasting against an inefficient basic education system, it narrates the country's realizations while struggling against religious fanaticism and political violence.
