INFLUENCE OF MgOCeO2 ON THE MICROSTRUCTURE AND HARDNESS OF WC–Ni-BASED ALLOY COATING BY VACUUM MELTING
Abstract
Influence of MgO+CeO2 on the microstructure and hardness of the WC–Ni-based alloy coating, manufactured on AISI 1045 by vacuum melting, have been investigated. It was found that suitable addition of MgO+CeO2 can effectively reduce the pores within the coating, can refine the grain size of the WC hard phase and makes it get distributed uniformly. The hardness of the coating was enhanced with the addition of MgO+CeO2. It reached the maximum value of 920HV at the addition of 0.4% MgO+0.4% CeO2. Excess addition of MgO+CeO2 can result in many defects in the coating during the solidification process. The coating with the addition content of 0.4% MgO+0.4% CeO2 was shown the most excellent property. The related mechanism is also discussed.
