A polarization filter based on simple structure photonic crystal fiber (PCF) coated with gold air holes is designed in this work. The full vector finite element method (FEM) is used to calculate the characteristic parameters of PCF. In the final numerical simulation results, the loss peak in the $y$ polarization direction is 2305.72 dB/cm and the $x$-polarized loss is as low as 75.86 dB/cm at 1.31 $\mu$m. For the fiber length of 1000 $\mu$m, the CT reaches 1936.83 dB and a wide bandwidth greater than 20 dB can provide above 800 nm. The content of this paper can provide a new idea for filter structure design.

In the current era of deep-submicron technology (DSM), minimizing the propagation delay and energy consumption on buses is the most important design objective in system-on-chip (SOC) designs. In particular, coupling effects between wires on the bus can cause serious problems such as cross-talk delay, noise, and power dissipation. Most of the work reported in literature so far concentrates on either minimizing the energy consumption or the delay. In this paper, the authors propose two coding techniques for achieving energy and delay efficiency in data transmission on on-chip buses. It is shown, using SPEC 2000 benchmark suit, that the proposed techniques achieve an energy saving of 35% or over the un-encoded data on the data bus and eliminate cross-talk-delay classes 6, 5, and 4.

Two-way cross-talk transitions between pairs of signature partners superdeformed (SD) bands in ${}^{191}$Hg (SD2,SD3), ${}^{193}$Hg (SD3,SD4) and ${}^{193}$T1(SD1,SD2) built on the configurations $\nu 3/2+[642],\nu 7/2+[624],\pi 5/2+[642]$, respectively, are proposed. The $\mathrm{\Delta }I=1$ energy staggering presented in these odd SD nuclei are investigated and parametrized by proposing two staggering functions depending on the dipole transitions linking the signature partners. These staggering functions differ from the conventional staggering functions employed in previous works which depend on the quadruple transitions within each band. For parametrization, we used the two-term formula of Bohr–Mottelson collective rotational model. The model parameters and the bandhead spins of the considered signature partners are determined by using a simulated fitting search program and the values of the adopted parameters are used to calculate transition energies $E_{\gamma }$, rotational frequencies $\hslash \omega$, kinematic $J^{(1)}$ and dynamic $J^{(2)}$ moments of inertia. The calculated results agree very well with the experimental ones. The bands exhibit the usual increasing trend. Large amplitude staggering has been found in the considered three signature partner pairs in ${}^{191,193}$Hg and ${}^{193}$T1 nuclei.

Traditional Walsh technique is used to eliminate cross-talk in a array of radio telescope where achieving synchronization between modulator and demodulator without compromising sensitivity is a real challenge. The paper describes a novel approach named Walsh Delay Hunting (WDH) to synchronize independently running modulator and demodulator with no additional hardware. This approach is unique and can easily be implemented in any existing radio telescope with minimal changes, thus by putting Walsh modulator at telescope and demodulation can be done in digital back-end. The scheme greatly reduces antenna electronics and overhead of sending synchronizing Walsh start pulse back to center station and vice versa. The paper describes WDH method and its feasibility study for Giant Meterwave Radio Telescope (GMRT) along with test results. The modulator is a low cost CPLD-based module and demodulation is done in a Reconfigurable Open Architecture Computing Hardware (ROACH)-based digitizer and packetizer. The scheme requires noise injection facility before modulator, which GMRT has for antenna calibration.

Estimation of the Photon Detect Efficiency (PDE) of multi-pixel Geiger-mode avalanche photodiodes (G-APD) based on measurements of the G-APD response to low-intensity light is presented. The fit of the light-response spectra takes into account after-pulsing and cross-talk effects and yields the value of initial photons. Using a calibrated photo-detector as a reference, the value of the PDE can be calculated. The sources of systematic error of the obtained PDE is discussed as well as possibility for its minimization.
