This paper presents some essential findings and results on using ranking-based kernels for the analysis and utilization of high dimensional and noisy biomedical data in applied clinical diagnostics. We claim that presented kernels combined with a state-of-the-art classification technique — a Support Vector Machine (SVM) — could significantly improve the classification rate and predictive power of the wrapper method, e.g. SVM. Moreover, the advantage of such kernels could be potentially exploited for other kernel methods and essential computer-aided tasks such as novelty detection and clustering. Our experimental results and theoretical generalization bounds imply that ranking-based kernels outperform other traditionally employed SVM kernels on high dimensional biomedical and microarray data.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a well-established medical system with a long history. Currently, artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly expanding in many fields including TCM. AI will significantly improve the reliability and accuracy of diagnostics, thus increasing the use of effective therapeutic methods for patients. This systematic review provides an updated overview on the major breakthroughs in the field of AI-assisted TCM four diagnostic methods, syndrome differentiation, and treatment. AI-assisted TCM diagnosis is mainly based on digital data collected by modern electronic instruments, which makes TCM diagnosis more quantitative, objective, and standardized. As a result, the diagnosis decisions made by different TCM doctors exhibit more consistency, accuracy, and reliability. Meanwhile, the therapeutic efficacy of TCM can be evaluated objectively. Therefore, AI is promoting TCM from experience to evidence-based medicine, a genuine scientific revolution. Furthermore, huge and non-uniform knowledge on formula-syndrome relationships and the combination rules of herbal TCM formulae could be better standardized with the help of AI analysis, which is necessary for the clinical efficacy evaluation and further optimization on the standardized TCM formulae. AI bridges the gap between TCM and modern science and technology. AI may bring clinical TCM diagnostics closer to western medicine. With the help of AI, more scientific evidence about TCM will be discovered. It can be expected that more unified guidelines for specific TCM syndromes will be issued with the development of AI-assisted TCM therapies in the future.

For accurate electron temperature diagnostics, the collision-excitation model is used for Sulfur plasma. Using the calculated Maxwellian average collision strengths at 1000 K, we calculate the electron temperature using the 3s²3p²D₁–3s²3p²P₃, 3s²3p²S₁–3s²3p²D₁ and 3s²3p²S₁–3s²3p²P³ transitions of Sulfur III. Results show that when the line ratio of 3s²3p²S₁–3s²3p²D₁ and 3s²3p²D₁–3s²3p²P₃ transitions varies from 0.43 to 1, the electron temperature will vary from 0 to $5.7\times 10^4$ K, and the electron temperature will decrease with increasing line ratio. This discussion will be important for electron temperature diagnostics of plasma.

In this paper, a robust fault detection methodology for complex analog CMOS integrated filters is presented. It is based on combining the two types of testing methodologies, Oscillation-Based Testing (OBT) and IDDQ testing, i.e., measuring of the power-supply current ($I_{DD}$). The proposed methodology is applied to the Bi-quad Sallen–Key band-pass (BP) filter cell with relatively complex, two-stage, class-AB-output, operational amplifier (opamp) topology. The filter is custom designed targeting the 180-nm CMOS technology. Hundreds of time-domain simulations and analyses of the circuit output signal are performed in order to obtain the fault dictionary. The presented results show that the proposed hybrid OBT–IDDQ methodology is significantly more efficient in the defects coverage than any of the particular test methodologies alone. Subsequently, the specific algorithm for the defects classification is proposed. Based on the classification, certain degree of diagnosis of the individual defect, or a group of defects, can be achieved.
