On the basis of postulates for the holographic description of gravity and the introduction of entropic force, for static sources we derive the universal law: the entropy of a holographic screen is equal to quarter of its area in the Planck system of units.

A permissible spectrum of transverse vibrations for the holographic screen modifies both a distribution of thermal energy over bits at low temperatures and the law of gravitation at small accelerations of free fall in agreement with observations of flat rotation curves in spiral galaxies. This modification relates holographic screen parameters in de Sitter spacetime with the Milgrom acceleration in MOND.

The entropic gravity scenario recently proposed by Erik Verlinde reproduced Newton's law of purely classical gravity yet the key assumptions of this approach all have quantum mechanical origins. As is typical for emergent phenomena in physics, the underlying, more fundamental physics often reveals itself as corrections to the leading classical behavior. So one naturally wonders: where is ℏ hiding in entropic gravity? To address this question, we first revisit the idea of holographic screen as well as entropy and its variation law in order to obtain a self-consistent approach to the problem. Next we argue that since the concept of minimal length has been invoked in the Bekenstein entropic derivation, the generalized uncertainty principle (GUP), which is a direct consequence of the minimal length, should be taken into consideration in the entropic interpretation of gravity. Indeed based on GUP it has been demonstrated that the black hole Bekenstein entropy area law must be modified not only in the strong but also in the weak gravity regime where in the weak gravity limit the GUP modified entropy exhibits a logarithmic correction. When applying it to the entropic interpretation, we demonstrate that the resulting gravity force law does include sub-leading order correction terms that depend on ℏ. Such deviation from the classical Newton's law may serve as a probe to the validity of entropic gravity.

In this paper, we study thermodynamical contributions to the theory of gravity under the q-deformed boson and fermion gas models. According to Verlinde’s proposal, the law of gravity is not based on a fundamental interaction but it emerges as an entropic force from the changes of entropy associated with the information on the holographic screen. In addition, Strominger shows that the extremal quantum black holes obey neither boson nor fermion statistics, but they obey deformed statistic. Using these notions, we find q-deformed entropy and temperature functions. We also present the contributions that come from the q-deformed model to the Poisson equation, Newton’s law of gravity and Einstein’s field equations.

Starting with an entropy that includes volumetric, area and length terms as well as logarithmic contributions, we derive the corresponding modified Newtonian gravity and derive the expression for planetary orbits. We calculate the shift of the perihelion of Mercury to find bounds to the parameters associated to the modified Newtonian gravity. We compare the parameter associated to the volumetric contribution in the entropy-area relationship with the value derived for galactic rotation curves and the value obtained from the cosmological constant.

The magnitude and sign of the gravitational coupling $1/G$ depend on the relations between different contributions from scalar, fermionic and vector fields. In principle, this may give the zero and negative values of $1/G$ in some hypothetical Universes with the proper relations between the fermionic and bosonic species. We consider different conjectures related to gravity, such as the wave function collapse caused by gravity, entropic gravity and maximum force. We find that some of them do not work in the Universes with zero or negative $1/G$, and thus cannot be considered as universal. Thus, the extension of the gravitational coupling to $1/G\le 0$ provides the test on the universality of the proposed theories of gravity.

In this study, the effects of the generalized uncertainty principle on the theory of gravity are analyzed. Inspired by Verlinde’s entropic gravity approach and using the modified Unruh temperature, the generalized Einstein field equations with cosmological constant are obtained and corresponding conservation law is investigated. The resulting conservation law of energy–momentum tensor dictates that the generalized Einstein field equations are valid in a very limited range of accelerations. Moreover, the modified Newton’s law of gravity and the modified Poisson equation are derived. In a certain limit, these modified equations reduce to their standard forms.

We propose a connection between global physics and local galactic dynamics via quantum gravity. The salient features of cold dark matter (CDM) and modified Newtonian dynamics (MOND) are combined into a unified scheme by introducing the concept of MONDian dark matter which behaves like CDM at cluster and cosmological scales but emulates MOND at the galactic scale.

In this study, we investigate the effects of the one- and two-parameters deformed systems on the Friedmann equations of the Friedmann–Robertson–Walker (FRW) universe by using the entropic gravity approach in the framework of the early universe era. We give simplified forms for the deformed Unruh temperature and Einstein field equations for three different deformed systems. Based on these compact equations, we derive the Friedmann equations with the effective gravitational and cosmological terms.

In this work, we study a Friedmann–Robertson–Walker (FRW) universe derived from a modified entropy–area relationship. By applying the first law of thermodynamics to the so-called apparent horizon and a modified entropy–area relationship, we obtain a modified Friedmann equation. Solving this model for a perfect fluid with vanishing cosmological constant, we find that for early times, the scale factor is the same as that of an FRW universe. In the late-time regime, although the cosmological constant is zero, the asymptotic behavior of the scale factor is exponential, and therefore, we can identify an effective cosmological constant. The origin of the effective cosmological constant can be traced to the modifications of the entropy–area relation.

We propose the concept of MoNDian dark matter which behaves like cold dark matter at cluster and cosmic scales but emulates modified Newtonian dynamics at the galactic scale. The connection between global physics and local galactic dynamics is implemented via entropic gravity. We also give an alternative formulation of MoNDian dark matter by using an effective gravitational Born-Infeld theory. In the latter approach, we show that the quanta of MoNDian dark matter obey infinite statistics.
