On 6 February 2023, an earthquake doublet occurred, the first at Kahramanmaraş Pazarcık district ($M_w=7.7$) at local time 04:17 and the second, which approximately 9 hours after the first earthquake, occurred at Kahramanmaraş Elbistan district ($M_w=7.6$) at local time 13:24 in Türkiye. It is a disaster affected 11 cities in the eastern region in Türkiye and is referred as “Disaster of the Century”. Earthquake disasters allow humanity to investigate seismic behavior under related construction details and revising the seismic codes.

The authors conducted observational research to obtain interpretive information and digital data by investigating structural damages of moderately and heavily damaged buildings from earthquake sites. In this paper, performance evaluation is done based on existence of soft storey, weak column-strong beam, deficiencies and pounding effect. Damages are classified as beam, column, beam-column joint and shear wall, infill wall, roof and scaffolding damages. Ampleness of soft storey, column damages, inadequate joint reinforcement, inadequate structural ductility and low capacity, strong beam-weak column effect, and infill wall damages have been observed from the field. As a result of field observation, structural deficiencies, irregularities and mismatching capacity design principles have been concluded as common problems of reinforced concrete buildings in the Kahramanmaraş earthquake site.

Atoll islands are low-lying and consist of the biological organisms such as corals and foraminifers. These islands have high vulnerability to the coastal erosion and need the conservation plan. Sato and Yokoki (2008) developed the sediment transport model in Majuro atoll. Although they had a good agreement with realistic sediment volume change, the extreme large accretion and erosion were also calculated at some points. Toward accurate estimation of future land changes, we improved the model by considering the interaction between waves and land changes in this study. The calculated results showed no extreme accretion and erosion and better agreement with the realistic sediment volume during 10 years. The present model enabled reasonable estimation for the future land change in Majuro atoll.

Field investigation is an important job for scientists and staff of nature reserve. The traditional method for filed investigation is observing animals or plants outside, measuring related data, filling out paper forms in field, and typing into computer for statistics and analysis. This method is error-prone and inefficient. Intelligent mobile terminals running Android system become popular in recent years. They are portable and powerful. In this paper, we implemented a field investigation system based on Android. With this system, people working in filed can record data easily and store data into database automatically. Meanwhile, this system can integrate tracks with photos, videos and audios to illustrate human activity in detail. This system has been put to use and is welcomed by users from Qinghai Normal University. At the end of this paper, we look forward the future work.
