Environmental Applications and Implications of Nano and Biotechnologies

With the advent of nano and biotechnology, a broad palette of novel applications is being developed which aims to improve the quality of our engineered and natural environments. The goal of this special issue is to promote and showcase some of these new nano and biotechnology-driven applications and explore their potential environmental and anthropogenic implications.

A broad spectrum of nanotechnology and biotechnology topics are welcome. Some examples of specific topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Nanotechnology applications in water and wastewater treatment.
  • Nanotechnology applications in air pollution prevention and control.
  • Nanotechnology applications in soils and groundwater pollution prevention.
  • Application of nanotechnology and biotechnology for pollution sensing and monitoring of environmental processes and systems.
  • Nanomaterial contaminant fate and transport in different environmental matrices (water, soil, air, biological).
  • Biological water and wastewater treatment.
  • Novel biotechnologies in environmental monitoring.
  • Biotechnology in fermentation and other food production processes.
  • Nexus between nanotechnology and bioecology sensors and artificial intelligence/machine learning.

Before submission authors should carefully read over the journal's Author Guidelines, which are located at /page/nl/submission-guidelines. Prospective authors should submit an electronic copy of their complete manuscript by 30 September 2025 at https://www.editorialmanager.com/wspc-nl. In the "article type" field, select "Special Issue Paper". In "Select section/category" field, choose "SPECIAL ISSUE: Environmental Applications and Implications of Nano and Biotechnologies".

We look forward to receiving your contribution.
