This article critically examines the relationship between institutionalization and the innovation process, traditionally regarded distinctively, leading to theoretical and methodological biases. It is also difficult to find how empirical research implements institutional theories. Drawing on the innovation and institutional theories, and a systematic literature review on ICT usage in the agricultural advisory system (AAS), our study reveals that ICT is becoming established within AAS. Two dominant isomorphisms guided ICT usage in AAS: coercive and normative isomorphism. We argue that the institutionalization process is a continuum of the innovation process. From this perspective, technology is conceptualized as potentially useful knowledge that undergoes a series of changes during its institutionalization. We propose an analytical framework that could induce further theoretical refinement and progress.

This study investigates the impact of attitude and trust on the behavioral intention of adopting artificial intelligence (AI)-based voice-assistant services through the integration of parasocial relationship theory (PSR) and human–computer interaction (HCI) theory. Employing a deductive approach, partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) was performed to assess the proposed model based on 295 participants by using a purposive sampling method. Findings revealed that the functional components significantly impacted users’ attitudes, while social attributes, such as social cognition and electronic word of mouth (e-WOM), were revealed to be critical constituents in driving users’ trust. Moreover, technology self-efficacy (TSE) showed a moderating impact on the relationship between trust and behavioral intention to use voice-assistant services. Based on the findings, the study provides robust and meaningful insights for managers and designers to foster trust and form a positive attitude among the users. Additionally, the outcome of the study adds to the body of research on AI-based technology adoption and interactions by investigating the antecedents of trust and attitudes towards voice-assistant services.

Information Technology has taken a prominent role in firm investments, yet there is considerable variation in returns in technology-based expenditures. We posit that the technology leader such as the CIO or CTO is a valuable resource and plays a critical role when the position is endowed with power. Our analysis shows how a technology leader’s influential presence affects firm performance, particularly in the presence of an IT-related exogenous shock. Using cross-industry data, we find that firms with powerful technology leaders generate higher sales growth, and furthermore, in the presence of exogenous shocks, markets reward firms having powerful technology leaders.

This paper investigates drivers of technology acceptance of and payment for digital journalism. Environments in which digital media content and technology are fused from the perspective of the user, have yet to be researched with technology acceptance models. In this paper, we subsume digital journalistic content as such technology and investigate how the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology 2 (UTAUT2) explains the use of journalism. Further, we extend traditional acceptance research by investigating not only usage, but payment intention and behavior. To this end, we refer to a representative survey of the German online population ($N=4240$) and estimate effects within the framework of a structural equation model. The results reveal that the traditional model is better suited to explain usage, but can also explain a substantial part of the variance in payment. Above all, price value, hedonic motivation and social influence appear to have the strongest positive effects on intent and behavior. Surprisingly, effort expectancy has a positive influence on paying intent. Managers who engage in content creation should highlight these aspects. The findings further contribute towards a much needed, better understanding of user behavior across technologies.

Global research and development (R&D) projects are common in multinational companies. Prior studies mainly paid attention to the global R&D projects from an organizational perspective such as organizational structures and foreign R&D unit coordination. This study aims at contributing to the improvement of global R&D projects by focusing on the competencies of individual managers (called bridge managers) who bridge organizations of different countries and facilitate research collaboration between teams in different countries. Bridge managers (BMs) are especially needed in offshore R&D projects to assist organizations to utilize knowledge resources in emerging countries including India. We collected data using online survey and analyzed data of 73 managers who have experience in facilitating global R&D projects. Results of qualitative comparative analysis showed that resilience and ability to understand worldwide business could help managers to solve communication difficulty in global R&D projects. The significance of this study is that we clarify the relationships between the competencies of BMs and the difficulties in global R&D projects. BMs could possess specific competencies for solving particular difficulties. Organizations could utilize the list of competencies in human resource management practices for recruitment, training, and assignment of BMs to facilitate their global R&D projects.

Purpose: Agricultural supply chains witness several challenges, which result in increased cost of operations, high wastages, and low efficiency. In the case of vegetable supply chains (VSCs), the intensity of challenges is very high due to perishability. Literature suggests various operations research tools for supply chain management of perishables, but there is a paucity of research highlighting the real models adopted by real players in the market while making revenue. This paper investigates and presents how a startup can innovate its business model to meet the VSC issues by adopting a single case study methodology.

Design: The phenomenon was studied by convergent interviewing with the company’s key personnel and gathering information from the company’s key documents followed by content analysis.

Findings: The study shows real practices adopted by a startup to cater to the challenges of VSCs in India by incorporating various tools of productivity enhancement and waste reduction. It highlights the adoption of a traceability system, production planning mechanism, reduced food miles, and green initiatives contributing to an innovative business model. The study maps the business model of the startup with the business model concept provided by [] and states two more dimensions, i.e. “Client relationship management” and “Sustainability activities” to expand the mentioned configuration.

Originality: The study is the first of its kind to highlight the Business Model Innovation of a startup to address the VSC challenges in the Indian context.

Practical contribution: The study has important managerial implications useful for finding our new value propositions in a VSC firm by shortening and effectively integrating the supply chain while minimizing information asymmetry to achieve economies and sustainability.

Theoretical contribution: This study has strengthened the methodological advances in the study of business models based upon earlier validated configurations. It contributes to the extant research by adding two more elements “Client relationship management” and “Sustainability activities” in a business model configuration.

A recent emerging market that has impacting companies, customers, and society is the one embedded in Cryptoeconomics. However, although promising, management research has been scarce in drawing the Business Model Innovation (BMI) based on Cryptoeconomics as a new market, including its theoretical underpinnings. Acknowledging both the research gap and the practical relevance of market representations and business models in the market shaping phenomenon, we conduct a pioneering empirical study to investigate how forward-looking firms have practiced Cryptoeconomics to shape new markets through BMI. As significant contributions, (i) we provide a conceptual framework to clarify the market shaping process led by companies that devise Cryptoeconomics as a strategic tool for BMI and, finally, (ii) we unfold the market practices associated with the market shaping process enacted by multiple case studies, including how these practices are interlinked as socio-material phenomena in the light of BMI constructs.

Aim: This study aims to explore the influence of innovation hubs (IHs) on innovation-based regional development.

Methodology: This study applied a qualitative approach using a multiple case study method to collect data through 10 semi-structured interviews. A detailed analysis of the data collected was conducted using the content analysis method.

Findings: The study shows that IHs can influence both economic and social development. An IH can attract knowledge and expertise as well as investors to the region through its activities and geographical location. The hubs support start-ups, entrepreneurs and smart specialization at the same time as they also enable sustainable development by creating social value. Regions can exchange resources through cross-collaboration via IHs.

Research Implications: This study has important theoretical managerial and societal implications. It adds comprehensive knowledge to the existing theory on IHs and regional development by highlighting the influence of IHs on regional development. The study shows both economic and social influence in detail and points out a previously undiscussed concept in the context of the correlation between IHs and regional development.
