In this work, we perform a theoretical analysis of the electronic and optical properties of CdS quantum dot (QD) encapsulated in ZnSe matrix. The intersubband energy levels and the matching wave functions are calculated using the effective mass approximation (E.M.A) and the compact density matrix approach. The effect of self-energy contribution due to the charging of CdS QD with ZnSe matrix has been taken into account from the beginning. We found that the linear and nonlinear optical properties are considerably impacted by the size parameter and the optical intensity I. The results obtained have essential consequences for the design of optoelectronic and photonic devices.

In this paper, features of generation of two types of surface plasmon-polaritons (SPPs) in optical anisotropic hyperbolic metamaterials formed by a periodic lattice of metal nanocylinders embedded in a dielectric matrix are considered. The dependencies of the group velocity and the penetration depth inside metamaterial of the generated plasmon-polaritons on filling ratio are established and analyzed. Based on the effective medium theory, the surface plasmon-polaritons generation at interface of hyperbolic metamaterials is analytically calculated and discussed.

In this study, three well-known partial differential equations (PDEs) are extended to their logarithmic nonlinearities with and without attenuation terms. These new models are the logarithmic unstable nonlinear Schrödinger (UNLS), the logarithmic Hamiltonian amplitude, and the logarithmic extended UNLS equations. As a result, the new logarithmic equations are investigated to find their Gaussian solitary waves (GSWs). The GSW solutions are presented for all new logarithmic models. Furthermore, we demonstrated that all logarithmic models are distinguishable by GSWs. These logarithmic extensions and their Gaussian solutions will be useful to find logarithmic extensions of other PDEs.

This paper explores the new $(3+1)$-dimensional nonlinear Schrödinger equation which is used to model the propagation of ultra-short optical pulses in highly-nonlinear media. This equation is newly derived based on the extended $(3+1)$-dimensional zero curvature equation. An effective technique, namely, the extended sinh-Gordon equation expansion method is applied to find optical soliton solutions and other solutions for this model. As a result, dark, bright, combined dark–bright, singular, combined singular soliton solutions, and singular periodic wave solutions are obtained. The stability of the model is investigated by using the modulation instability analysis which guarantees that the model is stable and all solutions are stable and exact. Physical explanations of the obtained solutions are presented by using 3D and 2D plots. The reported outcomes are useful in the empirical application of fiber optics.

In this paper, we theoretically analyze optically-induced transparency and absorption properties of a weak probe field in a two-mode coupled micro-cavity system and explore the tunable asymmetric Fano line shape of the transmission rates of the probe field. Both the modes in our system consist of an optical Kerr medium, one of them being passive while the other mode can be either active or passive. The forward transmission and backward reflection profile of the probe field are investigated for both passive–passive and passive–active cavity systems by varying different system parameters such as probe field detuning, photon tunneling strength, gain-to-loss ratio, etc. The results of this study have the potential to be applied in construction of quantum telecommunication and photonic devices.

In fifth-generation (5G) fronthaul networks, the wavelength division multiplexing passive optical network (WDM-PON) is considered as an important tool to address the advanced transmission requirements. The nonlinear effects occur when multiple wavelengths are transmitted simultaneously in the same optical fiber. In this paper, we investigate the four-wave mixing (FWM) and the cross-phase modulation (XPM) effects by using non-return-to-zero (NRZ), 4-level pulse amplitude modulation (PAM4), and optical duobinary (ODB) modulation formats in WDM-PON-based 5G fronthaul networks. The results show that ODB performs better when it comes to limiting the FWM and XPM effects because of its precoded attribute. Compared to the unpredictable sensitivity penalty based on NRZ and PAM4, the FWM-induced sensitivity penalty using ODB is reduced to 2dB. Moreover, the XPM-induced sensitivity penalty is measured as 1dB by adopting ODB, which is almost 5dB better than NRZ and PAM4 modulation formats.

This paper retrieves different types of solutions such as $M$-shaped rational solutions with one and two kinks, homoclinic breather, multi-waves, periodic cross-kink and kink-cross rational solutions for Radhakrishnan–Kundu–Lakshmanan equation (RKLE). We will study the $M$-shaped interaction with rogue and kink, we will also obtain the $M$-shaped interaction with periodic and kink, periodic cross-rational solutions. At the end, we will express the graphical representation for our newly achieved solutions.

Nematicons became a key topic of interest in liquid crystal technology in recent years. This paper contributes in understanding the fantastic features of nematicons in optics and further disciplines. This piece of research investigates nematicons for obtaining various exact solutions for Kerr and non-Kerr law nonlinearities with the help of the Kudryashov’s approach and the tanh–coth technique. The acquired outcomes involve rational, periodic and hyperbolic solutions as well as their combo-type solutions for all the four cases of nonlinearity. A comparative study is conducted to show the novelty of present results with results already existing in the literature. The constraint conditions obtained ensured that the existence of these solutions is extraordinarily favorable to further investigate the dynamics of nematicons for various kinds of nonlinearity. The dynamics of the few of the obtained solutions are also discussed by 3D plots.
