LU Xueyi, was born in August 1933 but died on May 13th 2013 in Beijing because of illness. He had been the President of the Chinese Academy of Social Science, Head of Research Institute of Chinese Social Sciences, Member of the 8th & 9th National People's Congress. His main areas of research included sociological theories, social structure and developmental theories of rural villages. He had written voluminous theses, papers, survey reports on the "The Golden Period of Agricultural Development", "Family Contract Joint-Production System in Rural Areas", "Contemporary Chinese Rural Villages and Peasants", "The Three Agricultures", "Chinese Society in Transition", "Changes in China's Social Structure", etc. His edited books include Sociology of the Early Stage of Socialism, Sociology, An Analysis and Forecast of Contemporary Chinese Society, Social Mobility of Contemporary China, and Social Structure of Contemporary China etc. Prof Lu was also the recipient of various national and provincial accolades and rewards. He also chaired many key research projects sponsored by the National Social Sciences Fund including Series of Books on the National Conditions of China — Socio-economic Surveys of 100 villages and Research on the History of Chinese Sociological Thoughts etc.
