Track II Diplomacy usually refers to an unofficial process with a government background. It plays an important role in promoting regional cooperation in Asia. The main tasks of Track II Diplomacy are to analyze problems, make policy recommendations, and provide intellectual support for official cooperation. Participants are mainly experts and scholars engaged in policy research as well as the government officials participating in their private capacities. The Institute of Asian Studies (IAS) at China Foreign Affairs University is China's focal point for three most influential Track II mechanisms of this region, namely the Network of East Asian Think-tanks (NEAT), the Network of ASEAN-China Think-tanks (NACT) and the Network of Trilateral Cooperation Think-tanks (NTCT).

IAS is proud to launch Series on Asian Regional Cooperation Studies jointly with the World Scientific Publishing, the most reputable English academic publisher in Asia. The purpose of this series is not only to motivate more scholars to get involved in Track II Diplomacy of Asia, but also to increase the recognition of the three networks by reaching out to a wide audience. Based on the platforms of NEAT, NACT and NTCT, this series will invite outstanding scholars to conduct in-depth research on significant and challenging issues in Asian regional cooperation, through conference proceedings, scholarly monographs, textbooks and translations with high academic standards and strong policy relevance.
