This paper investigates the effect of poverty on services export concentration in developing countries. The analysis has used an unbalanced panel dataset of 95 developing countries over the period 1995–2014. Findings suggest that higher poverty rates induce greater services export concentration, and this effect translates through three channels, namely, human capital, trade openness, and export product concentration. Thus, if they were to diversify services export items, policymakers should implement policies (such as reducing services trade barriers and improving the business environment) that directly promote services export diversification, but also measures that directly target poor segments of the population.

This study examines whether logistics performance affects the relationship between export upgrading and economic growth using a sample of 145 countries from 2007 to 2018. The relationship between logistics performance and export upgrading is relatively unexplored. We find that both logistics performance and export upgrading are associated with growth and complementary to growth. However, the marginal effects of export upgrading are insignificant at low levels of logistics performance. This relationship holds for our subsample of advanced economies; however, export upgrading and its interaction term with logistics performance are insignificant for our subsample of developing economies.

Using a nonlinear autoregressive distributed lag and frequency domain analysis, this paper examines the impact of various uncertainty indicators on oil market fear (OMF) in Nigeria, from 1997M1–2020M3. The results show that economic policy uncertainty (EPU), climate policy uncertainty (CPU), and financial globalization uncertainty (FGU) have perverse effects on the OMF. We observed that a bi-directional causal relationship between EPU and the OMF exists temporarily. A unidirectional causal effect exists from CPU to OMF. We further show a bi-directional causal relationship between OMF and FGU. Policy recommendations are discussed accordingly.
